OPENING AND CLOSING
Up from July 26th to Sept 20th

What does it mean to open? To close? Here at 6th on 7th we have delved into many deep discussions surrounding the different interpretations of these actions. This exhibition is a meditation, exploring this theme's many literal and symbolic representations.
Join us in our celebration of Openings and Closings. Each photo highlights a unique response to this prompt shaped by the artist and their perspective. Some may respond with doors ajar, a peephole in a fence, while others may explore themes of vulnerability, youth, and age.
At 6th and 7th, we celebrate diverse voices across cultures, ages, and life experiences. This show is a testament to that diversity offering many ways of viewing the same topic while honoring them all. We invite you to consider your own relationship to these actions and see how simple concepts can contain vast layers of meaning when viewed through someone else's eyes.

ร la carte is a photographic still life series transforming individual fruits and vegetables into lush studies of light, texture, and form. Drawing on the painterly tradition of chiaroscuro, LindaKay Brown uses long exposure to sculpt her subjects in light and shadow, revealing unexpected richness in their surfaces and reflections. The series connects this visual intensity to the ethos of the slow food movement, which similarly celebrates intentionality and purposeful presentation. Inspired by the work of photographic pioneers Edward Weston and Irving Penn, Brown elevates the presence of everyday produce to something contemplative and distinguished.

6th on 7th Photography Workshop embraces an โart as therapyโ approach dedicated to improving mental health amongst the underserved community in San Franciscoโs South of Market neighborhood as well as military veterans interested in the art of photography and creative storytelling.
โWe view self-expression as a right, and want to give people the opportunity and platform to share their stories.โ

A project of Tenants and Owners Development Corporation (TODCO), the Photography Workshop has served the community since 1992.
Originally called โSixth Street Photography Workshop,โ when photographer and educator Tom Ferentz founded it with support from TODCO, the program was designed to last only six months. Over thirty years later, we are lucky to continue our mission of spreading the love of photography in San Francisco and beyond.
