Guest Artist: Kathryn Dunlevie

Kathryn Dunlevie is a photography-based artist whose work has been exhibited throughout the United States and internationally. Cathy Kimball, former Executive Director of the Institute of Contemporary Art San Jose, writes of Dunlevie’s work:

“Through brilliant compositional detail and manipulation, she creates disconcerting, surprising, inexplicable spaces and scenarios.”

Dunlevie has always been intrigued by spatial and temporal inconsistencies, and by every individual’s particular and shifting sense of what is real. Fragmenting, reassembling and layering images, she suggests the fluidity of space and time and the complex psychologies of the entities she portrays.

Her project “Cover versions,” a fractured, soulful, occasionally disorienting series of collages incorporating vintage record covers and her recent personal photographs, harmonizes kitsch and modern architecture, retro-futurism and a sparkling wit, into an immersive tapestry of shapes and color.
